Review

This story is the ending of the series, and I must say it’s a good conclusion.

I haven’t read all the previous books, but I got enough details about the characters and the backstories that I wasn’t too confused about who was who and what they do or did. It worked well as a standalone.

In my opinion, Ashlee and TJ’s relationship was more lust than love, and we don’t see much of them together after the initial attraction–barely any moment when they connect beyond the physical. But once you accept that there might be more, it’s actually a cute couple, and the situation they’re in becomes interesting.

We see Ashlee struggling with her past trauma, needing answers and closure, and TJ is just the right person to give them to her. But his decisions conflict with his position as HEAT’s leader. Both aspects added a little flesh to the characters.

My favorite aspect of the couple? They’re equal. All the way. You’ll see what I mean when you read it.

The spy plot was riveting. It was nice to see again the team working as a whole, each member a cog in a well oiled machine. Except TJ’s feelings for Ashlee is the grain of sand that risks everything.

Sometimes, it felt rushed, but as it is a condensed version of a story, it’s understandable.
