Summary

One night together nearly ruined our friendship, but then two pink lines changed our lives forever.

When I got out of the military and came back to Ryker Ranch, all I wanted was a place to call home. I found that with Jenna Hughes. She offered me a roof over my head on one condition – that we stay firmly in the friend zone.

It’s all going fine until a blizzard derails our plans, and we obliterate the line we swore never to cross. Now, I can’t look at my roommate without wanting more.

Especially when Jenna tells me she’s pregnant.

But the last thing she wants is for me to stick around because of the baby. She doesn’t realize she’s had me roped for a long time, and I never want her to let go of the reins. How the hell can I convince my sweet stubborn girl to let me love her without scaring her away?

Review

(audiobook) I have to admit, it’s my first Ryker Ranch novel. I met with some of the characters in other books, but I’m not familiar with the universe, so I’m in no way able to say whether this particular book is a good entryway. Nonetheless, I quite enjoyed it as it is. I swooned a lot, for sure.

Jenna and Trent are friends, become roommates when she offers him a place to live, and even more after an inebriated night of passion. But despite a positive pregnancy test, they can’t be more than friends–they have so many hangups it’s not even funny. And all of them have a role in defining their relationship.

Jenna has seen first hand what an unplanned pregnancy and a misplaced sense of responsibility can do to a couple, and she doesn’t want to ruin what she shares with Trent. On the other hand, Trent wants to belong, and what a better place to be than with the woman he cherishes. In a way, the story is a battle of will, each trying to convince the other that their idea is the best.

The overall theme is building a family by choosing who one wants around them. After being away for so long, Trent reconnects with the Rykers, finding love and support there, while Jenna is deciding whether she wants Trent as a father to her baby. There are friends around them too. The feeling of belonging was sweet and heartwarming, really.

I have one problem with this book. Trent is extra swoony, a real good guy, even when he can be violent to protect those he loves. But his dominance in bed didn’t sit well with me. I’m not against the kink, but I thought it didn’t work well for Trent.

I loved the duet narration. I’m not always a fan of the male narrator, but here he did a wonderful job. There couldn’t have been a better Trent. And the female narrator did great, as usual. AIn conclusion, a nice little cowboy romance with lots of swoon and sexy.

  • + Trent’s devotion to Jenna
  •  I wasn’t a fan of Trent’s dominance in bed, didn’t fit with his personality in my opinion
